The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) has handed over a project vehicle to Oyam District to enhance the implementation of the Uganda Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation (UCSAT) Project.
The vehicle was officially received at the Oyam District Production Office and is expected to improve field monitoring, supervision, and extension services under the climate-smart agriculture programme.
Presiding over the handover, Oyam Resident District Commissioner Sgt. Shilako James commended the ministry for supporting the district’s agricultural transformation efforts. He described the vehicle as a critical resource that will improve project implementation and service delivery.
He cautioned officials against misusing the vehicle, directing that it be used exclusively for activities under the climate-smart agriculture project.
“This vehicle should never be diverted to other departments or personal errands. It must be properly maintained through routine servicing and fueled only from reputable stations,” Sgt. Shilako said.
The RDC also directed the District Production Department to organize community barazas across Oyam to sensitize farmers about the Climate Smart Agricultural Transformation Project and encourage them to participate.
Speaking on behalf of the Chief Administrative Officer, Principal Assistant Secretary Clement Emmanuel Otim challenged the project team to implement the programme diligently so that Oyam contributes to Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the government’s objective of increasing household incomes through commercial agriculture.
He also warned against leaving the vehicle solely under the custody of drivers, saying project managers should remain directly responsible for its use.
Oyam District Vice Chairperson Apali Ceasor thanked the government for selecting the district among the 69 beneficiaries, saying the vehicle will improve project coordination and farmer mobilization.
Production and Marketing Officer Cox Albino Ogwal welcomed the support from the ministry and emphasized that only the designated driver will be allowed to operate the vehicle in line with government guidelines.
District Climate Smart Agriculture Project Focal Person Dr. Ronald Were pledged to ensure the vehicle is used responsibly to achieve the project’s objectives.
He urged farmers to embrace climate-smart agriculture, expressing confidence that Oyam will emerge among the top-performing districts under the programme.
